While I enjoyed aspects of ownership, I can now let my NVA team handle the details of running a very busy hospital while I dedicate my time to working up cases and learning to be a better veterinarian.

Mike Pilch, DVM
Vice President of Operations
Dr. Pilch joined NVA in 2006. Prior to NVA, Dr. Pilch practiced veterinary medicine in Wyoming and Montana for 15 years. Dr. Pilch founded and sold his multi-doctor practice before joining NVA. Dr. Pilch has interests in a real estate development company, and has been trustee of a children’s philanthropy foundation. Dr. Pilch had his graduate studies at Colorado State University. His personal interests are fly fishing local and international waters and anything outdoors.
Vice President of Operations
Mr. DeVore joined NVA in February 2015 as the Vice President of Operations, covering the eastern United States. Prior to joining NVA, he worked at DaVita Healthcare Partners for 10 years in various finance and operations roles, most recently having served as a Division Vice President in Maryland. Prior to DaVita, he worked for SAIC as a Project Management Analyst, supporting the DOD’s efforts in chemical weapons destruction. He also served in various roles with Bechtel in building domestic power plants and nuclear waste cleanup for the DOE. Mr. DeVore earned his MBA from New York Institute of Technology and a BA in Business Administration from Washington College.
Vice President of Operations
Mr. Malad joined NVA in November of 2016. Before joining NVA, he served as Vice President and General Manager at TransUnion’s Healthcare Solutions business. Prior to TransUnion, Mr. Malad worked within private equity and in management consulting for the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). At various points in his career, Mr. Malad has been an entrepreneur, a management and operations consultant, and a business operator. Mr. Malad holds an MBA in finance from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and a BS in business administration from the University of Southern California.
Director of Division Operations - Arizona Division
Ms. Ruffin joined NVA in November 2008 and currently serves as Arizona Division Director of Operations. Prior to joining NVA, Ms. Ruffin served as Training/Quality Assurance Manager of TicketsNow, a subsidiary of Ticketmaster. Previously, Ms. Ruffin held progressively responsible positions with Banfield, The Pet Hospital. Ms. Ruffin earned her Executive MBA from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Director of Division Operations – Southeast Division
Ms. George joined NVA in 2004 as the Administrator for a Veterinary Specialty Referral & Emergency Center in Cleveland, Ohio. During her career at NVA, she has been promoted to Manager of Regional Operations, Manager of Division Operations and currently serves as Director of Division Operations - Southeast Division. Prior to joining NVA, she was the Administrator for a large, privately owned physician practice and outpatient testing center and also worked as the Regional Director for a multi-hospital heath system with responsibility for multiple hospital departments. Ms. George earned an Executive MBA and Bachelor of Arts degree from Baldwin-Wallace College.
Director of Division Operations – Northeast Division
Mr. Wong joined NVA in July 2015 and currently serves as the Director of Divisional Operations for the Northeast Division. He has served in various operational roles within manufacturing and the military. He holds an MBA from London Business School and BS from the United States Military Academy.
Director of Divisional Operations - Pacific West Division
Ms. Borso joined NVA in April of 2010 as Manager of Regional Operations for the West Division. She now serves as the Director of Divisional Operations for the Pacific West Division. Prior to joining NVA, Ms. Borso had a number of years in animal health companies, most recently in field operations with PetDRx, and previously in hospital management for VCA and Banfield. She has a BS in Physical Chemistry from The Evergreen State College in Washington.
Director of Division Operations – Central Division
Mr. Lesht joined NVA in August 2015 as Director of Divisional Operations for the Central Division. Previously, he served as head of finance and operations at Kendall College in Chicago and in other various roles with Career Education Corporation, including Campus President at Stanford-Brown College. Mr. Lesht earned his Bachelor of Science in Business with High Distinction and Honors from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University – Bloomington and his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Manager of Division Operations – Rio Grande Division
Mr. Nunez joined NVA in May of 2013 and currently serves as the Manager of Divisional Operations for the Texas Division. Prior to joining NVA, Mr. Nunez worked as a Field Director with Banfield Pet Hospital in a multi-unit capacity. Mr. Nunez attended the University of Florida where he received a BS in Animal Science and an MBA from University of Phoenix.
Manager of Division Operations - Mid-Atlantic Division
Ms. Botzenhart joined NVA in 2006 as the Administrator for Brighton-Eggert Animal Clinic in Tonawanda, NY. She then served as the Manager of Regional Operations for both the Northeast and Southeast Divisions. Most recently Ms. Botzenhart serves in the role as Manager of Division Operations for the Mid-Atlantic Division. She is the daughter of a veterinarian who spent many years growing up and working in her father’s practice. Prior to joining NVA, she served in leadership roles at several national retail organizations including Gap Inc. and Ann Taylor. Ms. Botzenhart received her Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Georgia.
Manager of Division Operations – Mountain West
Ms. Barclay is currently serving as the Manager of Divisional Operations for the Mountain West Division. Prior to joining NVA, Torrie spent 10 years working for Starbucks Coffee Company where she was a district manager in multiple districts. She is a true operator at heart and her proudest moments are those supporting the development of others, improving processes and systems and creating an environment that fosters growth and continuous improvement.
Manager of Division Operations – Mississippi Valley
Ms. Linvill joined NVA in January of 2014 and currently serves as the Manager of Divisional Operations for the Mississippi Valley Division. Prior to joining NVA, Ms. Linvill worked as the Hospital Administrator for a multi-unit, referral/ emergency/ general practice veterinary hospital in Northern California. She earned a BS in psychology from San Francisco State University, an MS in Human Resource Management from Troy University, and holds her certification in veterinary practice management from the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association.
Director of Division Operations – Greater South
Mr. Peters joined NVA in August of 2016 as Director of Division Operations for the Greater South Division. Prior to joining NVA, Marty was a management consultant with The Boston Consulting Group’s (BCG) Dallas and Detroit offices where he focused on strategy, organizational redesign, and procurement cases. Before BCG, Marty was an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Army with the 173rd Airborne Brigade and 1st Cavalry Division with four deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq leading platoon to company sized units. Marty received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Military Academy and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Senior Director of Operations – Specialty Division
Mr. Hight joined NVA in September 2016. Prior to joining NVA, he was a co-owner and President of Operations for CRC, a provider of emergency real estate services for insurance companies. Previously, he was the Director of Business Operations and Finance for Yelp, a local search technology company. Mr. Hight also worked as a management consultant for Bain & Company, working with companies in North America and Europe. Mr. Hight earned his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and a BS in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
Director of Divisional Operations - Midwest
Mr. Khan joined NVA in 2016 as the Director of Divisional Operations for the Midwest Division. Sam is an established operations and sales leader with proven experience and success managing businesses and teams for large organizations. Throughout his career, he has achieved significant growth for companies including Best Buy, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Cricket Wireless (acquired by AT&T), and Sleepy’s (acquired by Mattress Firm). His most recent position was Divisional Vice President of Emerging Markets for Sleepy’s The Mattress Professionals. During his time at Sleepy’s he developed and implemented sales and operations strategies that successfully positioned the company for sale to its #1 competitor. Sam holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management, as well as a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Marketing from Northern Illinois University.
